The End of the Penguin Drama

For those of you following our little drama,

I took "The Letter" into the school this morning.
I just have to say that Ev's principle is WONDERFUL!!
I received a phone call by lunch time. She was very direct,
understanding, and kind. It turns out, that Evelyn actually
chose the book and then asked the librarian to read it. So all
of my conspiracy theories about the school indoctrinating my
child sort of diminished.  I'm really glad that I wasn't
completely hormonal when I started writing.  She probably
would have thought I was some sort of hostile lunatic.
The cool thing about this whole horrid affair is that I was
able to share a copy of the Family Proclamation and I was
also able to have several conversations with my daughter
on the matter. Sure, it would have been nice to choose the
time and place but I've found as a parent I don't always get
that luxury. Sheesh!
I think that's all for now. I've got to stop typing because my
brain is turning to jelly!

The letter....Ooooo

Below is the letter I plan on giving to my daughter's principle.

I'm such a Readers Digest kind of gal. Short and sweet. My

husband helped expound and add some key elements to

this lovely little dity.

I've agonized over this letter because I really don't want

my daughter learning that this is an okay behavior. On the

other hand I really don't want to be ugly with her educators.

Let me know what you think.

Mrs. Miller,                                                                                         January, 27 2009

On Thursday the 15th my Kindergartener brought home a book that greatly

appalled and disturbed me. She also informed me that this book was read to them in the

library. The book I am referencing is, "And Tango Makes Three". This book completely

contradicts the religious and moral values we are trying to instill in her and our other

children.

The content of this literature is not appropriate to be taught in school, especially

to children at such a young age. It's fine if other families want to teach their children

these ideas, however this sensitive moral teaching should be done in the appropriate

family setting. Teaching such religiously / morally questionable material as presented in

this book without the consent or knowledge of the responsible guardians at best flirts with

the violation of the rights of separation of church and state. I reserve the right as a parent

to teach my family what I view as best for them, and I expect that right to be respected.

I have enclosed a copy of some of our beliefs so that you will understand the

values that my husband and I are trying to teach to our children. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Amanda Pendley

WHAT?!!!!!

This not the sort of thing that I generally post about
but I'm abbhorred, disgusted, and in utter disbelief!
Today, my kindergartener came home with a library
book called, "And Tango Makes Three." Do you know
what it's about?! It's this story about two gay peguins
in the Central park zoo. Apparently it's a true story with
a whole load of heart warming hogwash.

Ok...I'm sorry. I'm getting rude...I'm just so upset that
the public school system has taken it upon themselves
to teach my child worldly morals. I feel so undermined
as a parent.

So tonight I basically had a good old "where babies come
from" talk and why families are so important. It was
strange saying, "sperm and "egg" to my 6 year old....and
at the dinner table no less! Don't worry folks I didn't say
the big "S" word. I knew she would ask what such a word
could mean.

I'm glad I could get this off my chest. I'm sorry for the
content and if it offended anyone. Please keep reading
I promise not to be so crazy angry in the future.

A third for my Third

Spencer's three! It's so weird how big he's getting.
When we moved to Tennessee he was only 3 months
old! Now he's a potty trained, Toy Story lovin',
sister wolloper.

We gave him these figurines for his birthday and
he has seriously played with them since Saturday.
NONSTOP!
He won't even come to the table for meal times.
In fact, he gets rather angry when I call him to
to the table. How dare I?! I sure do love the little guy.
Even though he climbs all over me while I'm trying
to nap.(true story...yesterday)

1-2-3-4- and now there are 5!

So, I was gonna wait until Friday to spill the beans but
apparently I couldn't. If you can't tell by the picture there's
a bun in my oven! Yup #5! I was severely, completely, and
absolutely taken by surprise. This little number happens to
be about 1 1/2 years early. Sheesh. I wish I could figure out how
...oh never mind.
Surprisingly though I am fairly calm considering that we now
have to finish our basement and perhaps buy a new vehicle.
(yah, mini-vans don't accommodate 5 car seats) In fact I'm kind of
excited. And in case you're wondering I'm feeling great aside from
the "all day needing to throw-up" feeling. I am a little disappointed
in the fact that I was training to run a 5K and now I can't. Oh well.
I'll run a bit each week until I start to waddle. Which reminds me,
apparently with a 5th pregnancy you start showing at 8 weeks!
Go figure. Sigh-

Back to Business

Many of you may know this already but I'm going to
lay it out anyway. I'm a giant spaz. For some reason
I have a really hard time staying on task, or for that
matter, remembering what my tasks even are! I guess
I'm habitually unorganized and need a little help...sigh!
What my aunt and I have determined to do is to have
this self help blog based on the book "Sink Reflections".
Every week we will post 1 task and all of that week we
will incorporate that task into our daily routine. Hopefully
I will be able to buckle down and git 'r' done...so to speak.
So, if any of you would like to take part in this crazy scheme
all you need to do is check the blog on Mondays and then
sometime toward the end of the week leave a comment.
The link will be under my "places to go"....uh...area...thing.

7 years?!

7 Things I love about my husband

1. He always gets the door for me
2. He's very supportive
3. He's a great dad
4. He's very knowledgeable
5. He's a big kid (he bought Spencer a Lego castle and spent
Christmas day putting it together...without Spencer)
6. He never yells at me
7. He loves me even when I'm a giant ditz who forgets our anniversary!

I can't believe I did that! I actually forgot that today was the day.
I didn't mean too. I honestly have not had a brain lately. But he
just rolled his eyes and laughed at me. It's strange to me how quickly
life is. It really wasn't all that long ago that I wore that dress. (by the
way that will never happen again!) I look back on that time in my life
and I really had no clue what I was doing...the only thing I knew was
that James was my best friend and I wanted to be with him. I'm so
grateful to be married to such a wonderful person. Mushy much? Yah
I guess so. I suppose I'm entitled to be a little mushy sometimes though.
